First off, and maybe it's just me, the color I was expecting was much more pink than the item I received. The tones in this are more along the mauve line.My cousins all seem to be having the babies that my parents wish I was having. They entertain often, and family functions are at their house most of the time. I figured this would be a perfect addition to their baby stuff collection. We were able to use it for family Christmas. Take note of the size. It's not big. It's a great size for a newborn baby who won't go any further than a tummy roll. It's also very easy to clean, it's slick and most baby goop seems to just wipe right off. The toys are cute, and the way they attach to the matt and pillow are a nice touch. There is no padding on the matt. You are not getting anything from this matt that you aren't getting from a blanket or towel. (Thus, a solution to a problem that does not exist.) I ordered the Boppy Play Mat thinking I would not use if for a while for our new born. After going to the pediatrician for our first appointment, we were encouraged to get the baby to work on lifting her head every day during what they recommend as "Tummy Time." Even the box that the mat comes in mentions tummy time on it, so, it is really a cool tool to use in addition to what your Doc will suggest to you at the office.The mat itself is very easy to wash, yet, I am not so impressed with the fabric as it is mostly, polyester. Maybe a more durable cotton top with poly bottom would work. There are soft top changing mats that would seem to me more comfortable than this. However, having your baby wear a nice cotton shirt solves that problem. The pillow may be a little large at first for some tummy time activities, yet, even the tummy time instructions have you using your arm as a prop as you help the baby lift her head and guide and protect him/her with your other... I have six children so I have been around the block with items like this. What I like....It's cute.What I don't like, it is so slick that when I prop my baby up on the pillow for tummy time she slides off. They may have done that so it was more wipeable. Not sure but it didn't work for us, we sent it back. If you just want a blanket to lay your baby on it will work but I can do that with one of the 50 blankets we already have:) |
